ATM CAVE & XUNANTUNICH COMBO

This amazing combo can maximize your time while in San Ignacio Belize. An early departure is necessary to enjoy both historical and cultural sites, in one day packed with adventure and fun. The ATM cave is one hour drive from San Ignacio in the Tapir Mountain nature reserve where a 40-minute hike through the jungle will take you to the cave entrance. Well geared with life vest, helmet and light your certified guide will lead you through the journey into the maya underworld, believed to have been a religious and sacred place for them. Inside the cave you will be witness of the intricate natural formations along with artefacts, grinding stones and well preserved skeletal remains which are believed to have been religious sacrificial victims, offerings to the maya rain god.
After the cave tour there is a hike back to the parking lot where time for changing and lunch is given followed by an hour drive to the beautiful village of San Jose succotz where the Mopan river is crossed via a hand cranked ferry to access the maya site of Xunantunich.at this site you will be able to explore, climb and take picture while interacting with your expert guide about the sites archeology, history and nature which includes the possibility of seeing monkeys, iguanas and different types of birds.

Change of clothes
Modest comfortable Athletic clothing (dress code for cave: no bikinis or sleeveless shirts for both male and females)
Tennis shoes/hiking boots/close toe sandals/sturdy water shoes (are going to get wet).
Extra pair of socks (mandatory for preservation reasons)
To protect the fragile environment of the cave bug spray and sunscreen are not allowed for the cave tour
